ABOUT THE MEGHALAYA BASIN MANAGEMENT AGENCY (MBMA)

The Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) is a not for profit company under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 incorporated under the Planning Department of the Government of Meghalaya.

 

MBMA’s FUNCTION


MBMA focuses on promoting integrated natural resource management focused livelihoods through enterprise development, market access and linkage, and knowledge services by leveraging on investment from State and Central Government, UN organisation, multilateral institutions and other stakeholders.

 

Role of Meghalaya Basin Management Agency
1. Channelizing funding through multilateral agencies:
- International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
- World Bank
2. Implementing Externally Aided Projects (EAPs)
3. Promoting Market-Driven Enterprises at the State and District Levels (PRIME & FOCUS)

Focus of Meghalaya Basin Management Agency

Meghalaya Livelihoods and Access to Markets Project (Megha-LAMP)

Project to improve family incomes and quality of life in rural Meghalaya through a specific focus on developing markets and value chains for sustainable livelihoods, and ensuring that these livelihoods are adapted to Meghalaya’s geographical context and to the effects of climate change

Community-led Landscape Management Project (CLLMP)

Project to strengthen community led natural resource management in different landscapes in Meghalaya with focus on – Strengthening of knowledge and capacity of communities for improved natural resource management (NRM); Planning for Sustainable Natural Resource Management and investments in NRM activities.

Promotion and Incubation of Market-Driven Enterprises (PRIME)

Program that seeks to create and promote a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state where aspiring entrepreneurs, start-ups, and early-stage enterprises are nurtured and supported to translate their innovative ideas into business and sustain them in the long run by fostering effective networking opportunities.

Farmers’ Collectivization for Upscaling of Production and Marketing Systems (FOCUS)

Program that identifies production clusters of marketable produce, Value Chain Analysis, formation of Producer Groups (PGs), identification and training of Service Producers (SPs) and building large collectives in the form of Cooperative Societies and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) through bringing together well functioning PGs.
